Health Begins Here!
Folks often come in to get out of pain due to an accident or overdoing a particular activity. Occasionally we are not afforded such obvious clues and there is no specific mechanism of injury. In this case, there is an accumulation of micro-traumas from poor posture or ergonomics or a combination of both. Dr. Pillow works with each patient to get to the bottom of the cause of the injury and teaches creative ways of avoiding future set-backs.
Gentle Chiropractic Care:
Dr. Pillow uses hands-on treatment at each visit and is well-versed in many techniques. Gentler techniques practiced include Activator, SOT Pelvic wedges, Drop and Flexion-Distraction or Spinal Decompression. These do not create the “pop” sound in the joints during the adjustment. Diversified is a more vigorous technique that may make a cavitation or audible sound when the joint releases. This is used only with patients that enjoy this type of adjustment and are able to relax and receive them. Dr. Pillow never forces adjustments as she knows patients would be more tender after, so she always takes special care, particularly with patients that are hesitant. She has helped numerous people without ever “popping” a joint!
We have state of the art equipment including drop tables, and an automatic flexion-distraction. This is a gentle technique where the doctor delivers specific spinal decompression and has proved extremely successful. She also has physiotherapy equipment including electric stimulation and ultrasound machines.
The doctor draws from her experience in Chiropractic, massage therapy, yoga, Pilates, exercise, running and meditation. This breadth of knowledge allows her to creatively solve your particular puzzle. She may teach you exercises, stretches and personal ergonomics so that you may avoid future episodes. She happily works with other healthcare practitioners so that you may lead a fulfilling, pain-free life.
X-rays, MRI and other studies are ordered only when necessary. They are not required before the first office visit or at any particular interval during treatment. In general, the doctor will order such studies in the case of a car accident or other major trauma or if a patient is not responding to treatment.
Dr. Pillow is well-versed not only in spinal adjustments, but also in extremity adjustments. Issues may originate in an extremity and not from the spine. Upper and lower extremity injuries that she has successfully treated include Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, Rotator Cuff Dysfunction and Plantar Fasciitis to name a few. Many patients enjoy getting the arches of their feet adjusted and feel it adds a skip to their step!
Nutritional Guidance and Evaluations; Supplements Available:
Dr. Pillow offers nutritional evaluations and may use the Standard Process Systems Survey to determine your needs. This is a system that reveals nutritional deficiencies that might have far reaching effects. We carry Standard Process products as they are whole food supplements and are bio-available or readily digested. They are the highest quality we have found and are pleased with their results!
Orthopedic and Other Support Products:
We stock a number of helpful products such as Biofreeze that is a topical pain-reliever, quality ice/hot packs that never solidify, but keep their temperature for a long time. We have lumbar supports, massage tools and other helpful supplies to help you maintain your active lifestyle. Let us know what you need and we will find it for you.
Stretching and Exercise Instruction:
We believe in active care which allows the patient to take part in their recovery. In addition to Chiropractic care, that the doctor will give appropriate stretches and exercises specific to the patient’s needs. In this manner, the patient will recover faster and fend off repeat crisis. Every patient is expected to maintain an exercise regimen even if they have not exercised before coming in for care. A simple 20 minute walk will do wonders for the body, mind and soul. All rehabilitation protocols include some form of cardiovascular exercise in addition to specific work. If you are able, go for a walk now, or better yet, take your dog for a walk or ride your bike. You will feel better overall!
